The Old Out House

On completion of an out-house to the present sun-room a patio was laid. One long patio to the arched gateway and one path went on down to the Dordogne. Along the walls off this garden were clematis, such as jacmani and also a vine. In the mild of this garden was placed a brick circle to be filled with compost and soil and later planted up.On the death of Sir Richard in 1979 Lady Harvey had the sun-room garden paved in random stone. On reaching the Dordogne and going over Ralph’s bridge you then entered the wild garden. The grass path to the pond led around the edge of the pond and to the yew hedge that then gave entry to the vegetable garden. The vegetables from this plot for decades had fed those living within the Priory. On the edge of this vegetable plot was the small cottage(Dovecote) known as the “Cott.” This in the later years was occupied by chauffer for the Priory household. Numerous fruit trees were apples, pears, figs were on the walls around the estate.
