Cosmia Armytage
The orchard had a variety of apple trees They were near the concrete
bridge at sometime erected over the Dordogne close by the dovecote cottage.
This cottage was at one time occupied by the chauffeur to the Lister
family. There is a very large walnut tree on the side edge of the Dordogne.
Major Fisher was told that this
walnut tree (Cosmia Armytage) was special (by a Canadian friend).
So he took some graftings from the original
tree (19620and grew some more in a special patch of garden. Several
survived and were planted out opposite the
main tree by Sir Richard Harvey's gardener in 1965.These were planted
by Ralph Palladino into the lower orchard
,by the gate through to the piggery in 1976,just eight feet tall.
The York stone path at the back of the house to the wall and the steps
were laid at a later period.
