It was in August 1964 that Sir Richard and Lady Harvey purchased and moved into Chisenbury Priory with their
Head Gardener. They had been looking for a new retirement home for two years. They implemented a five year
plan which would transform and update the garden. Lady Harvey was a talented and skilled gardener .When she
set eyes on Chisenbury Priory gardens she knew she could transform the gardens and the house. She had
already transformed Bowman's Farm , Burwash in East Sussex with her Head gardener.
She had many gardening friends in East Sussex, including Christopher Lloyd. David Austin roses were her favourite. Her knowledge of Gertrude Jeckle influenced her deeply as she planned the new gardens for Chisenbury Priory.
